JOURNALISM student Mikaela Day was named as the first female recipient of the Border Mail Cameron Thompson scholarship on Friday.

A former Albury High school pupil, Ms Day recently completed her second year of a bachelor of journalism at Monash University.
Ms Day said she was honoured to receive the scholarship in memory of the former editor, who died in 2008.
“I am very proud to receive this award and to have this opportunity,” she said.
“I would love to come back to Albury one day and work at a regional newspaper.”
Ms Day completed work experience at The Age and at Cosmopolitan magazine.
The Cameron Thompson memorial golf day will be held on November 20 at Wodonga Golf Club.
