About 20,000 litres of the product began to spill from a truck on Indigo Creek Road in the Indigo Valley on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to the area about noon as the liquid spilled onto the roadside.
Wodonga firefighter David Brown said while it was considered non-toxic, there was still an environmental impact.
“We're not concerned about toxicity,” he said.
“We're working with the Environment Protection Authority, chemists from the CFA and the bio-diesel plant to make sure the site is remediated.
“Part of that will be taking away the soil.”
The spill occurred near Plemings Road where the product is produced by the bio-diesel plant.
The liquid was being transported in a shipping container, which had to be removed by a crane.
The cause of the leak is unknown.
