It was the second century of Daly’s career after he made 101 against Bethanga several years ago.
“I was a bit scratchy until about 60, then I thought I can’t do anymore running so I hit out a bit,” Daly said.
“It was good to make a few runs.”
Daly said he was reasonably happy with the score after day one.
“It’s pretty even,” he said.
“They got off to a bit of a flyer so hopefully we can pull them in a bit.”
Dean Simmons (21), Hunter Brown (18) and Zade Giddins (12) were the only other Howlong batsmen to make double figures.
Daly picked up a late wicket and had another disallowed after the umpire ruled it was a no ball.
Eskdale and Barnawartha-Chiltern are locked in a thriller at Eskdale.
The home team bundled their opponents out for 84 thanks to some outstanding bowling from Liam Tobin.
He ran through the Miners’ top-order and finished with five wickets.
The consistent Murray Price was the only batsman to provide any resistance with 42.
But Barnawartha-Chiltern struck back and had Eskdale reeling at 8-76 at stumps.
Wodonga is in huge trouble against Mount Beauty at Willow Park.
Michael Booth’s 35 enabled the home team to scramble to 117 but it was hard going against Ashan Ranaweera, Ethan Brown and Darren Cootee.
Mount Beauty will resume at 3-82.
Yackandandah will defend 9-225 against Dederang.
The Roos were cruising at 1-106 but the quick departure of Cameron Evans (45) and Bailey Glass (42) saw the match turn on its head.
The visitors slumped to 7-128 before Mick Walker came to the rescue with a half-century.
Aaryn Daniels chipped in with a handy 24 down the order.
Dederang’s Luke Deans and Josh McNeill picked up three wickets each.
Baranduda made 8-258 against Kiewa.
The Hawks toiled hard in the field with Robbie Barber the most successful bowler with 3-51 off 15 overs.
The ladder is: Baranduda 32.99, Kiewa 26.88, Wodonga 25.63, Dederang 23.79, Eskdale 23.05, Mt Beauty 18.18, Yackandandah 18.11, Barnawartha-Chiltern 16.54, Howlong 10.79, Bethanga 8.27.
