Danielle Shaw still doesn't know who gave her the meals, but she said the small gesture helped her through a difficult time.
Mrs Shaw's story is one of many to have popped up on the Albury Wodonga Random Acts of Kindness Facebook page.
“The day we had my father's funeral, I arrived home and found a big bag of food on our doorstep with a bag of ice to keep it all cool,” she said.
“It was filled with pastas and lasagne - the kind of food you want when something like this happens.
“It was beautiful and I appreciated it so much, it was so kind.
“I just want to find a way to thank them.
"I just couldn’t stop wandering who would have done it, who would taken time out of their day to think of us?
“It’s like they were watching over us to make sure we were eating.”
Mrs Shaw said the gesture has inspired her to consider about how she could help people.
She said it has made her think more about others, especially those who may be struggling.
“My dad always said being kind is a legacy you can leave behind forever,” she said.
The Facebook page was set up by Tara Leach in June to show how a small gesture could make someone's day.
On it are posts about everything from ducks crossing the road to people helping with groceries.
It began after she decided to pay someone's coffee forward and now has more than 2600 likes.
Ms Leach said many Border businesses had come on board and about 4000 random act of kindness cards had been distributed.
“It's great people are willing to work together to create something really special here on the Border,” she said.
“We want to do posters for businesses so customers know they will honour random acts of kindness and pay it forward.
“Homeless or disadvantaged people can be too proud to ask for a coffee.
“People have really shared what they have been doing and other acts of kindness they have seen which has been fantastic.”
