The church, which was built in 1901, was sold for $116,000 at the auction conducted on Saturday by Stockdale & Leggo, Wangaratta.
Agent Mike Willoughby said there were three bidders on the property, but declined to reveal the identity of the successful buyer.
The new owners plan to transform the church into a home at a later date, but any redevelopment will be subject to planning approval from Wangaratta Council.
The church is built on land classified as farming zone presently.
St Brigid's was owned by the Sandhurst Diocese and all sale proceeds would be used in Wangaratta Catholic community.
Parish priest Mike Pullar said a plaque recognising the church's existence was unveiled last year.
