Murray King’s business Trafficking Road Services has operated from a large building opposite the airport terminal for eight years.

But he has been served with a legal letter outlining the lease requirements which includes being an aviation-related business.

Mr King rents office space to a company called Air Services and a car rental business servicing airport passengers is also on the premises.

The council’s airport advisory committee uses a meeting room in the building and Mr King also argues he has carried out line marking work on the runway.

But he uses the large shed to store signs and other line-marking equipment which has put him into conflict with the council.

Mr King claimed the pressure being applied by the council including possible eviction was in response to him repeatedly complaining about other companies trumping him for council work.

“The council flatly refuses to engage us and goes to other companies,” he said.

“Every single employee we have is from Albury-Wodonga.

“It is because I ring up and whinge every time I see someone from outside Albury getting the work.

“We are not running a manufacturing business, we are not emitting odorous gases that waft over the town, we don’t have a poultry farm out the back.

“It is a vendetta because I have been questioning them using interstate and non-local companies.”

The council’s acting general manager Michael Keys said the terms of Mr King’s lease were clearly spelt out.

“They are very clear provisions in regards to what the land can be used for,” he said.

“The other tenants in the airport estate comply with those provisions.

“It could end up that he is in default and there could be an eviction.

“We will consider further legal advice and are seeking a response from Mr King.”

Mr Keys said there was no “vendetta” towards Mr King, who has sought advice from the NSW small business commissioner and ombudsman about the issue.
