The Queensland youth was aged 13 when he was abducted from the Sunshine Coast in December 2003.
His body was identified by DNA in 2011 and his killer, Brett Peter Cowan, was convicted of the murder in March last year.
Daniel’s parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe have been running a foundation for their son for a decade.
The foundation educates children about personal safety and assists young victims of crime.
Organiser Prue McGlynn said the Dinner for Daniel, which will be held at Club Mulwala, would help continue their work.
“It was awful,” she said of his death.
“No-one expects that to happen to their son.
“You can’t keep all crazy people off the street, so the next step is to educate the kids.
“That’s what Bruce and Denise are trying to do so that what happened to him won’t happen to anyone else.”
Ms McGlynn has been trying to find sponsors for the event and has received support from underworld identity Mick Gatto, who had offered to do what he could.
“I met him a few years ago and I recently sent him an email,” she said.
“He wrote back the next morning and asked what he could do.
Gatto had been set to attend the event but Ms McGlynn said last night a mix-up with dates had meant he had to cancel.
Andrew Wishart has confirmed he will perform as Ms McGlynn continues to finalise details.
“I became an ambassador to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation this year,” she said.
“I saw on Facebook that they were doing school talks and wanted our kids doing that.
“Bruce and Denise have been really good at getting the message across.
"Whatever money we raise from the night will go to the foundation.
"We're trying to get more people on board.”
The event will be held on March 5.
