The 76-year-old Wodonga man had been pulling into the car park at the Birralee shopping centre on Monday.
His foot became stuck on the accelerator of his Toyota sedan and the vehicle struck a gutter and drove onto a footpath.
The wheels of the vehicle had lost traction and spun as the driver lost control.
Two cars were struck in the process, with a new Kia Sportage sustaining damage to the front end.
The car’s radiator was damaged and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
A Subaru Forester also sustained front end damage and had to be towed.
The incident occurred about 11.25am.
No-one was seriously injured despite initial concerns for those involved.
Police said it had been lucky that there were no pedestrians walking on the footpath at the time of the crash.
Emergency services spent about an hour on scene.
