Her mother Lorraine said it was putting pressure on the family with country pools closed during the cooler months.
“It’s six hours up there and we have to stay for two nights,” she said.
“It’s a big commitment for the family as well as the diver.”
Ms Pettingill said the time put in to travel was worth it for the performances.
“Emily definitely gets more time because the pool closes from March to September,” she said.
A new indoor aquatics centre is in the pipeline and would ensure access to diving facilities all-year-round.
Ms Pettingill said it would be much easier on her and Emily if they could keep training in the region.
“You’d come if it was available more often and it would be a big improvement on her progress,” she said.
Emily will represent NSW in the one and three-metre springboard events at next week’s Pacific School Games in Adelaide.
