He found Nathan Power and together they formed rock duo The New Savages.
Milutinovic says as soon as Power was on board they started searching for places to perform.
“Nathan seemed pretty professional and we clicked immediately from the word go,” he says.
“We started booking gigs and tours and we now have a record out.”
Milutinovic says he calls the duo “a band in a box.”
“I’m always trying to play bass with my thumb and keep the melody going with my index finger,” he says.
“When Nathan comes into the picture he really puts the groove down.
“I say to my girlfriend we’re almost like a married couple.”
Making the record was a big risk, but Milutinovic says it has been of assistance on the touring circuit.
“It’s been a bit gradual but now we have a tour under our belt people are starting to take more notice of us,” he says.
Milutinovic says blues music is in his blood.
“From the start I’ve always been interested in blues guitar and nothing else,” he says.
“Once I started I didn’t look back.”
Milutonivic says the energy on stage is a vast difference to that of a full five-piece band.
“Everything is so focused upon you as a two piece,” he says.
“Maybe that’s why we get a bit rowdy because there are more eyes upon you.”
Floating on air is Milutinovic’s way of describing the “click” between himself and Power.
“There are some songs you really click and the energy is right there when you’re completely locked in,” he says.
The New Savages will play at Tanswell’s Commercial Hotel in Beechworth on November 27.
Milutinovic says there is real appreciation for music in regional areas.
“I love coming to country towns and I think the people are always receptive,” he says.
“They appreciate the time and effort we put into the music.”
Milutinovic says travelling is always an adventure.
“People ask me if I’m going to travel the world,” he says.
“I’d rather just go to small towns in Australia.”
Milutinovic loves the buzz every time he gets on stage.
“The energy peaks by the end of the set,” he says.
