Racing Wodonga had hoped to lure the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup to also ride at its meeting with leading trainer Brian Cox hoping to engage her services.
Racing Wodonga general manager Tom O'Connor said Payne was out of the picture, but still hoped Melbourne Cup winning trainer Darren Weir would make a rare visit to Wodonga with a cup runner.
"We've been told Michelle is heading overseas for a well earned break after this weekend's Ballarat Cup," O'Connor said.
O'Connor said nominations for the cup meeting closed on Monday and he had his fingers crossed the prolific trainer would have a runner.
