The collision occurred on Newman Street near Greta Road about 3.15pm on Thursday.
The rider, a man believed to be in his 40s was badly injured after being struck.
There were initial concerns that the man had died.
He received head and leg injuries, and damage to his arms.
He was taken to Wangaratta Base Hospital.
Police are investigating the cause.
