The $140,000 community room has been used since June, following the $250,000 station upgrade in 2014.
Killawarra Fire Brigade captain Clayton Henderson said the area only had about 120 dwellings and was 10 minutes from Wangaratta, but was vital for fighting fires.
He said its position near the Warby Range could protect fire spreading to nearby towns.
“We see ourselves as very important and very strategic,” Mr Henderson said.
The building was officially opened by CFA board member Ross Coyle, and watched by District 23 operations manager and Murray Valley MP Tim McCurdy.
The new community room has already been put to use by groups like Landcare and the CWA.
“It makes the brigade and the community competitive against the others with sporting organisations,” Mr Henderson said.
