More than 60,000 people have viewed the Facebook page Hello! Tarrington, which features the hay bale art competition and the town’s annual Laternenfest on Friday night. It seems that the force was with the creators of a hay bale that resembles Star Wars character Yoda after it took out the award for best entry.
Laternenfest committee chairman Colin Huf said the worldwide attention showed just how popular the hay bale art was.
“That’s the fantastic part of it. A little village of 200 people and it’s going worldwide. It’s gone viral,” Mr Huf said.
He said lots of people were stopping to take photos.
A busload even travelled from Ballarat just to see the hay bales.
The population of the tiny town swelled to about 1600 people for Friday night’s 21st Laternenfest. Mr Huf said the traditional German kuchen cake had again proved popular, selling out despite increasing the amount on offer last year by a third.
