Not consulted
I REFER to the member for Indi’s “Indi Scoop" December 4, 2015 on her web site where she lists the passed recent legislation in the federal parliament House of Representatives.

It is unfortunate that she was not instrumental in passing the Australian Citizenship Amendment (Allegiance to Australia) Bill 2015.
Ms McGowan voted against it. In her speech in parliament on November 23 she said "But, in this case, it is not only the retrospective nature of the legislation that worries me and my constituents." Ms McGowan, I am one of your constituents and I was not consulted.
Please do not have the temerity to assume what I may think. In fact I suggest that the majority of your constituents are probably in favour of the legislation.
Only the Greens and some independents as I understand did not support the removal of Australian citizenship for convicted terrorists of dual nationality.
It looked like a no brainier to me. In fact even the Labor party supported it. I suggest that Ms McGowan’s web site should make it clear which passed legislation she did not support.
A casual reading of the site could imply she supported the legislation listed when she did not.

Charities making profit
WHAT is this garbage about not-for-profit charities?
In a normal business, profit is derived from establishing your income from sales. Then deducting operating costs, wages and tax and other operating expenses (EBITA).
Therefore if you setup a so called charitable organisation and pay your mates a million or so dollars in wages, this will show as operational costs, resulting in no profits on the balance sheet.
This must stop now, considering the latest revelations concerning certain sporting charities who only deliver around five or six per cent of donations to charity.
True charities are where nobody gets paid a cent.

Spread of population
THE red necks grabbed the very important Tom Elliott story last week.
Melbourne is a city blessed by its many nationalities and their contribution in many ways. Lets not target new arrivals as the problem.
Victoria is a state with many stunning regions by the sea and by the Murray river near wineries and great gourmet features/delights.
Victoria needs to have a better spread of population out of Melbourne and start to promote the joys of regional living for people who do not need to live in the city or suburbs.
Real estate agents need to be far more creative with copy for our stunning lifestyle on the Murray and near the mountains and vineyards "so like regional France or Italy”.
Lifestyle changers out of big cities can boost our lovely river towns and stimulate our economy.

Crib damaged by vandals
REGARDING Sam Springfield's letter (The Border Mail, December 3) about the Nativity Scene, ("the crib"), not being displayed in St Patrick’s Presbytery Church grounds, because of "you know who".
The display was damaged by vandals last year, and that is why it is now being displayed inside the church.
It is to stop the same happening to the display this festive season.
The change had nothing to do with "you know who".
