All I want for Christmas this year is the following Baker’s Dozen requests (in no particular order):
- For 2016 to go a bit slower than 2015. I appreciate a Leap Year occurs next year; sometimes 24 hours can make all the difference. I could have used an extra 12 hours last Wednesday when our eldest had a dance rehearsal and piano duo practice simultaneously. She cart-wheeled between the Albury Entertainment Centre and The Con while I ran behind in clogs saying: “Don’t break your knees!” Her reply: “You either, Mum!!” The only saving grace was my debut dinner at Canvas Eatery afterwards. A fitting finale!
- That House of Cards (Season 4) in 2016 lives up to its mid-year tweet "I will leave a legacy. #Underwood2016".
- For riesling to stop being so trendy and revert to pre-trendy prices. I’ve almost weaned myself back onto chardonnay for the first time since the mid-1990s. (Lovely reader, I could tell you the brand of local organic chardonnay that I heard about on the grapevine but then you’d buy it too and the price would go up! Personal message me if you must. Let me know if you get the foodie pun in the last sentence too; I’m sure we could be firm friends.)
- Ditto for gin. Who would have thought hipsters drank gin and tonic?
- For the raspberries to be plentiful at Stanley this season. #itsthemostwonderfultimeoftheyear
- Geoffrey Michael Patisserie salted caramel brioche donut and/or lemon tart, Andiamo Street Food’s arancini and pulled pork slider with Cofield Wines Roussane Marsanne. It was the perfect match at Food during the International Film Festival at Regent Cinemas Albury in August.
- I do harp on about this a bit but it will be a great day when our preschools and schools get all the money they need and the airforce has to hold a cake stall to buy a bomber. Not my words, just my sentiment.
- If you can arrange it I’d love to cook with Rachel Khoo. I was lucky enough to join a Manu Feildel cookery class at Wodonga TAFE this year thanks to Murray Valley Pork bringing home the bacon. But Khoo and Manu, they’re my all-time top two.
- For people to learn where to put their apostrophes. No, scrub that. Its’ too hard!
- That a post on my foodie blog goes semi-viral in 2016. I know Polly Wally Strudel blogs predominantly about pastry but I’m hoping you will rise to the challenge. I haven’t blogged since June, making the assignment that bit tougher but I’m preheating the oven on the next half-baked post now.
- A new pair of Funkis clogs. I wouldn’t usually ask for stuff but I’ve worn mine to death and they’re kind of in your shopping district. Sweden is just a hop, skip and short sleigh ride from the North Pole, ja? Size 38.
- For our almost five-year-old to sleep through the night some nights ie. Silent Night, Holy Night!
- Two seats in Noma’s Sydney restaurant. Just kidding! Impossible, I know.
Hopefully you’re not oversubscribed on the above-mentioned favours and/or items. I know it looks like a long list but you haven’t yet seen my children’s lists. If you ignore requests for live animals you could cut their lists down to size in no time.
Season’s greetings!
Material Girl
PS Thanks for bringing back Rake to ABC in 2016, (I refer you to last year’s letter).
