Vivid Advisers is the 87th B Corporation in Australia-New Zealand and the first combined accountancy/financial planning firm in Australia to gain certification.
Principals Bronwyn and Brad Tyrell said the focus on people, profit and planet of B Corporations aligned with their business philosophy.
“To us it’s the way we run our business anyway; the certification was just a way to formalise it,” Ms Tyrell said.
Ms Tyrell said the B Corporation model gelled with their team approach to their staff of five.
“Being very team-oriented and looking after our staff is important to us,” she said.
“Also transparency about our goals and taking staff on the ride with us.”
Having hailed from Corryong and Walla, Mr and Ms Tyrell said they understood the importance of businesses being active in the community.
“Being from small communities we already have that mindset,” Ms Tyrell said.
Wodonga Chamber of Commerce Women in Chamber chairwoman, Ms Tyrell said the environmental bent of B Corporations appealed to the them too.
“We have always recycled everything we can, we use recycled paper and we are as close to a paperless office as we can be,” she said.
Mr Tyrell said they supported local tradespeople and suppliers and that extended to their clients too.
“Our cleaner is our client, we use local tradies; a client installed the blinds in our office,” he said.
The Tyrells bought the Stanley Street business in October 2012 before they renamed it Vivid Advisers in November 2014.
“Our core clients are young at heart, passionate about what they do; they want a relationship with us, not just a transaction,” Ms Tyrell said.
Wodonga Chamber of Commerce wants 30 B Corps on the Border by 2030.
Business Growth Strategies director Rod Fraser said he now believed Albury-Wodonga could surpass that.
“I’d like to see 30 in two years; imagine if we could get 300 in the greater region by 2030,” he said.
