Hopefully we can help Myrtleford push for a finals spot.
- Brady Sharp
In a massive boost to the club’s key position stocks, Brady and Ryley Sharp shape as bookends for the Alpine Saints after putting a move to Melbourne on hold.
The brothers have spent the past two seasons on the Murray Bushrangers’ list, with Brady playing every game in the TAC Cup this year, mainly at full-back.
Brady, who as a result played just four games for Myrtleford in 2015, said he was excited about playing full-time with his brother at the McNamara Reserve.
“We’ve signed on which is pretty exciting,” the 18-year-old said.
“Hopefully we have a bit of fun and develop a bit more and win some games.
“Hopefully we can help Myrtleford push for a finals spot.”
Ryley played 10 games for the Alpine Saints this year as a key forward and in the ruck, with his highlight a seven-goal haul at Wodonga in round 16.
Brady said he had contemplated joining older brother Jake at VFL club Werribee next season, before committing to the Alpine Saints.
“It was an option I considered but we thought it would be nice to take a gap year at home and earn a bit of money and hit Melbourne the year after if all goes well,” he said.
“I think we’ve got a good young core group.
“And we’ve got some experienced guys who can push us towards a top five finish.”
Myrtleford’s focus on home-grown players has paid dividends, with Elijah Wales back after a stint at Werribee.
His older brother Hugh will also play for the Alpine Saints when free of VFL commitments with Footscray.
While Myrtleford’s had off-season success, it’s suffered two significant losses, with ace midfielder Kristan Height and defender Hamish Leahy joining Sandhurst in the Bendigo league.
