Racing Victoria made the call to due to the heatwave across Victoria.
Wangaratta chief executive Paul Hoysted said the club was disappointed with the ruling.
“It's unfortunate, this meet is as big as the Melbourne Cup for us in terms of bookings,” he said.
“But that decision has been made in the best interests of the industry.
“The right decision has been made, it's just unfortunate that it affects us financially.”
Anyone heading down for a Christmas party need not worry, with the club to honour its bookings.
“We're doing what we can, essentially it'll be the same event, but without the horses.” Hoysted said.
Despite major meets at Flemington and Morphettville being called off, Albury Racing's John Miller said there had been no indication from Racing NSW that the Albury meet would't run.
