That’s the simple goal Jerilderie trainer Phil Sweeney has for Gentleman Charlie, after his maiden win at Albury on Saturday.
Paying $61, Gentleman Charlie upstaged Steve’s Choice ($5) and Verguenza ($1.45) in the Maiden Handicap (1000m).
“It was a great win for the connections,” Sweeney said.
“We’ll just keep making small steps.
“No big ambitions, just keep winning.
“He ran good.
“I thought he could win at Echuca last prep.”
The track condition was a Good 3, with the seven-race card brought forward to 11.10am due to the stifling heat.
Sweeney’s daughter Brooke had a day to remember, riding four winners.
The 21-year-old, who graduated from Racing Victoria's apprentice jockey program on Thursday, rode three winners for her father.
"I thought I could win one, maybe two, so to get four was really exciting,” Brooke said.
