While all race meetings in Victoria were cancelled to due the heat – including down the freeway at Wangaratta – NSW meetings at Albury, Kembla Grange, Moree and Rosehill Gardens went ahead.
While Wangaratta had no racing, Christmas parties still went ahead.
The start of the seven-race card at Albury was pushed forward to 11.10am, with the last race at 2.36pm.
Miller said starting the meeting earlier made a huge difference.
“We got through it alright and starting earlier helped,” Miller said.
“I think 38 is as hot as it got while we were still racing.”
The club’s next meeting will be on January 16.
Albury will then have meetings on January 31, February 19, March 4 and March 17 before the Gold Cup on March 18.
