An 18-year-old Wangaratta man spent Christmas in police custody after he was arrested for the alleged burglary committed last week.
Constable Brett Angel said the vial of gold appeared to be a purchased souvenir.
“Those items still haven’t been recovered,” he said.
“It’s still an ongoing investigation.”
Anyone with information can contact Constable Angel at Wangaratta police station on (03) 5723 0888.

Wodonga police Sergeant Amanda Meagher said most people had been well-behaved over the holidays.
“Everyone’s entitled to have a few drinks, but be safe and look after your mates,” she said.
“It’s a time of year we’re urging everyone to take care on the roads, slow down and make sure they get to their destination.”
