Five motorists tested positive to either marijuana or methamphetamine in the Wangaratta region on Thursday.
Leading Senior Constable Gavin Frew said it was concerning given the high volume of traffic on roads at this time of year.
“Police are out in force to ensure that everyone arrives at their destination safely,” he said.
“It takes all of your concentration to operate a motor vehicle in a correct and safe manner.
“If you’re driving under the influence of a mind altering substance, your driving will be compromised.
“To catch five people drug driving in one day is very disappointing.”
Police in Victoria and NSW are running road operations over Christmas and into the new year.
