He’s entered the national road championships at Ballarat for the first time, but the Border athlete doesn’t have great expectations.
“I’m going to have a crack at the nationals,” Featonby said.
“I’m not after a result or anything but I’m really enjoying it (road racing) and I’d love to race the national road series and mix it with the big guys.”
While the 28-year-old doesn’t have a team and will be competing against some of Australia’s best professionals next weekend, his ninth place overall in the recent Tour of Bright will hold him in good stead.
Featonby also rode theEverest Challenge up Monument Hill, with the 240km ride taking him 11 hours and 23 minutes.
“I did the Bellbridge race and the Tour of Bright and surprised myself,” he said.
“That gave me a lot of confidence and that Everest Challenge put me in good shape.”
