Several people have taken to Facebook asking for either their rubbish or recycle bins to be emptied weekly throughout the year.
At the very least, many have said an extra bin run over Christmas would have been useful.
South Albury father Mark Middleton said some of his neighbours had resorted to using each others bins.
“An extra bin run at Christmas is just common sense,” he said.
“We make every effort to separate everything, but we still have issues with the red bin filling up.
“And you’d have to be a serious recycler to fill up the green bin every week.
“We couldn’ t really judge the system when it first came out, but it has been months now and we need to determine what works and what doesn’t.”
Mr Middleton said he was also concerned about illegal dumping and the associated fire dangers.
He said some people didn’t have the means to do a tip run and resorted to leaving rubbish in commercial skip bins or on public land.
“I’d like to see council do a public consensus,” Mr Middleton said.
“Let’s have a ratepayers vote on what people want.”
The three bin system was rolled out in Albury in March.
Residents received a kitchen caddy, a roll of biodegradable liners and green bin.
The green bin, for organic waste, is emptied weekly while the yellow recycle bin and red waste bin are emptied fortnightly.
Thurgoona resident Jodie Ward said her green bin is emptied every week when it is only half full.
“We do a lot of entertaining at our place and it’s to the point where we don’t want to do it any more because we have no where to put the rubbish,” she said.
“Our waste bin is full every week.
“We get maggots crawling down the driveway and even without a full green bin, the maggots still crawl out.
“We sort everything into the correct bins and I find the green bin is a total waste of time for weekly collection.
“There should have been an extra bin run for Christmas.”
Ms Ward had a pile of rubbish in her shed which she said would take weeks to clear up while she waited for rubbish collection.
“They need some sort of review system, especially with the heat coming up,” she said.
Meanwhile in Wodonga, residents experienced the same dilemma.
Yvette Anderson, who lives in an eight-person household, said a one-sized system doesn’t fit all.
“No matter how much we separate the bins the red one will not last two weeks,” she said.
“I pay for a second recycle bin, but I’ve been unable to get a second red-lidded waste one.
“The whole front yard stinks.”
Albury and Wodonga Council’s were contacted for comment, but neither was in a position to comment on Wednesday afternoon.
