In the days after Christmas, people’s bins reached capacity and so too did their tolerance of the three-bin system.
But, not everyone agreed with Cr Jackson’s response to complaints.
Albury deputy mayor David Thurley said while Christmas was a difficult time, he thought the system worked well when utilised properly.
South of the Border, Wodonga Council’s business services director Trevor Ierino took a similar stance.
Mr Ierino said council had looked at an extra run in the past, but the trucks were already at capacity.
“There aren’t spare trucks to do extra runs,” he said.
“The new system gives people 65 per cent more volume capacity when compared to the old system.
“An audit a few months ago showed 82 per cent of waste was now being diverted from landfill.
“Paper-based wrapping and packaging can be torn or shredded and put in the organics bin.
“If the need to drastically change the system emerged, we could talk to Cleanaway about a variation of the contract, but at this stage we haven’t seen the need for any fundamental change.”
The system came into effect in Albury in March and Wodonga in July.
Cr Jackson said he agreed with residents that council needed to ease the burden.
“First and foremost I'm going to ask for a report from council staff to see what the process would be of doing an extra service at Christmas and Easter and what the cost would be for ratepayers, then we will decide if if we think it’s a good idea,” he said.
“I'll put the motion forward prior to the next full council meeting.”
Councillors Darren Cameron and Kevin Mack strongly supported Cr Jackson while Alice Glachan and Patricia Gould said they’d need to look at peoples’ concerns.
Albury Mayor Henk van de Ven said rubbish was always a problem at Christmas and did not wish to comment while Cr Graham Docksey said it was an operational matter.
