Murray began the day in a tie for fifth place and held a clear lead as the leading amateur.
But he couldn’t hold on to it, with some bad luck on the par four ninth hole causing a triple-bogey at the Beach Golf Links at Barwon Heads.
Despite this Murray remained upbeat about his performance.
“Overall, I thought I played pretty well this week,” he said.
“I played solid early on today, was unlucky towards the end of the front nine.
“I know I can do it, some days there is a bit more pressure but I thought I held on pretty well.
Playing alongside high placegetters Scott Strange and Steven Dartnell was a valuable learning experience, Murray said.
“Both of them said golf can be a game of millimetres at times, which was pretty nice of them to day,” he said.
