FORMER Indigo mayor Bernard Gaffney has accused Telstra of holding his council to ransom by seeking money to install mobile phone towers in the shire.

He told this week's council meeting that he was annoyed the shire would have to pay $20,000 as part of a request to Telstra to have three black spots considered for federal government funding.
Cr Gaffney said the member for Indi Cathy McGowan “should be going into bat” to fight the money demand.
Cr Barb Murdoch agreed it was “ridiculous” but said they were the rules.
Indigo is nominating the Beechworth-Wodonga Road from Wooragee to Leneva, the intersection of that road with Indigo Creek Road and Beechworth-Chiltern Road to Old Coach Road for improved mobile coverage.
