The four-session pilot in Wodonga finished on a high recently when 170 items were presented to volunteer repairers.
Repair Cafe coordinator Lizette Salmon said 80 per cent of those items were fixed including furniture, clothing, battery-operated appliances and bikes.
“Although the Saturday sessions were better attended than Fridays, feedback was fantastic every session with comments about the friendly, happy atmosphere and people being so pleased at having their beloved items fixed free of charge,” Ms Salmon said.
The Repair Cafe will reopen at a new venue – the Sustainable Activity Centre in the former Tourist Information Centre on Gateway Island – on Saturday, June 4, and on the first Saturday of the month thereafter.
The working group is seeking more volunteer repairers who can contact Ms Salmon at lizette@salmonfamily.id.au or on (02) 6059 4185.
The trial was supported by Halve Waste.
