It left the woman in such fear that she called the police, who promptly charged the man who has spent most of his life wandering Australia.
For his crime Evans has been given a fixed term of four months in jail.
He thanked magistrate Tony Murray when handed the sentence in Albury Local Court this week.
With time already served, Evans will be out of jail by early June.
A pre-sentence report on Evans revealed a life of drug abuse and tragedy, including witnessing the Milperra bikie massacre.
The 47-year-old never knew his biological parents and so was raised by his maternal grandparents.
By the age of eight he had left school and by 14 he was regularly using heroin and cannabis.
The report revealed he soon became associated with a bikie gang, which led to the incident that he says is the root cause of the post-traumatic stress disorder he still suffers from today.
Evans was 16 when he witnessed the shoot-out between the Comancheros and newly formed Bandidos motorcycle gangs on Father’s Day, 1984.
Seven people were killed and 28 injured.
The court heard Evans had long suffered from mental illness, including schizophrenia.
Evans had previously pleaded guilty in Albury court to the charges of stalk or intimidate with intent to create fear of physical harm and destroy or damage property.
Mr Murray was told this week that Evans’ ongoing issues with drugs and alcohol, plus his itinerant lifestyle, made it extremely difficult to effectively treat his mental health issues.
Police facts handed to him outlined how the victim had been living in an Albury block of about 20 units designated for the over-50s.
She was in the unit on February 8 about 2pm when she heard a man yelling the kill threat at her front door.
Evans, who has a distinctive tattoo covering much of the left side of his face, then kicked the screen door.
Now in fear, the victim looked out the peep hole of her front door to see Evans walking away.
Evans later revealed he began drinking alcohol at 6am that day, estimating he made it through about eight or nine stubbies of beer.
His agitated state was partly caused by not having had methadone for about three days.
