With Azzi medal contender Hamish Clark leading the way, the Spiders grafted their way to a comfortable victory to take their win-loss record to 5-3.
Coach Joel Price said his team approached the match with plenty of caution with Henty’s season on the line.
”We saw it as a real danger game as Henty had a lot at stake,” Price said.
“I was rapt with how our boys adapted to the conditions.
“We felt in control for most of the match and, besides not being quite as clean as we would have liked due to the weather, I couldn’t have been happier.
“To have a four-goal win in those conditions was really pleasing.”
In defender Chris van Zanten’s 150th match, Howlong won every quarter with Clark, young centre half-forward Alex Dilger, midfielder Steve Fouracre and defender Max Barraclough prominent.
Dilger was exceptional with three goals in tough conditions.
“He’s come across from Tassie for uni and been great up forward,” Price said.
“Both he and Ryan Cannon are 19 and really leading the attack.”
Henty were best served by Peter Flood, Hayden Singe and Dylan Hore.
Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock’s Darcy I’Anson kicked a goal two minutes from full-time to prevent Holbrook from scoring the upset of the season at Holbrook.
The Brookers took the match right up to the reigning premier through Luke Carman, Josh Jones, Alec Sullivan and Jacob Curran and were unlucky not to come away with the four premiership points.
“It was one of those days where one side turned up to have a crack and one didn’t and it was us who didn’t,” coach Luke Brauer said.
“Full credit to Holbrook though as they played the conditions really well.
“Their young blokes had a red-hot crack and showed us up.
“We will need to be a lot better than that.”
Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock had solid contributors in David Oates, Nico Sedgwick, John-Roy Williams and Dean Murphy.
CDHBU wore down Culcairn by 22 points at Culcairn.
With only nine points separating the teams at the last change, the Power booted the only two goals of the final quarter through the efforts of Tim Cooper, Tyson Burdon and Matt Walker and Alex Wallis.
Nick Wright, Nat Stroh and Tim Hallinan were bold for the home team.
Murray Magpies accounted for Lockhart by 23 points at Lockhart with Ash and Derek Murray playing well.
