A MOTIVATION to get kids up off the coach and into the dojo has proven successful for Shotokan Karate Wodonga sensei Andrew Boyd.
Six members represented the dojo at the Shotokan National Championships in Melbourne last weekend and five returned with medals for a total of seven.
Boyd said it was a fantastic result.
“It’s a four day seminar followed by a national competition,” he said.
“Two of our members, James Harrison and Daniel Ritchie, did well enough to win national titles.
“James will go over to Indonesia to represent Australia in August.
“It’s fantastic to see our younger members doing so well.”
Boyd said getting kids fit and healthy was what had motivated him to start training pupils.
“First and foremost it’s about self-confidence and self-defence,” he said.
“We want the kids to get up off the couch and come and get fit.”
