Mr Chisnall was one of the Corowa district’s oldest living citizens before his death on Tuesday.
He celebrated his 102nd birthday on January 8.
Mr Chisnall spent the majority of his working life as a linesman with the Murray River County Council, but also had a brief stint as a mechanic in the army.
He and his late wife Catherine had three children, Carmel, Peter and Adrian, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr Chisnall and his brother Alf played together in the 1932 season when Corowa Spiders won the grand final by four points over West Albury under the coaching of “Nana” Baker.
Two years later, Corowa played off in another grand final, but lost to Border United with Mr Chisinall among the Spiders’ best players.
The club’s next O and M premiership team was in 1968 and included Mr Chisnall's son Peter.
The Spiders upset the highly fancied Wodonga by seven points with Peter among the team’s best.
He played in a VFL premiership team for North Melbourne in 1975 and was appointed coach of Corowa-Rutherglen when the two clubs merged in 1979.
Completing three generations of the family to play in O and M premiership teams, Peter's son Guy played in Corowa-Rutherglen's most recent flag winning team in 2003.
Roos official and former Corowa mayor Fred Longmire said the Chisnall family had enjoyed a sustained involvement with the club.
“Bill played in an era when Australian Rules football was really the only winter sport which was part of peoples' lives each and every Saturday,” he said.
“In a town the size of Corowa that was very significant.
“He was a real contributor and that extended to further generations.”
Mr Chisnall also coached the former South Corowa junior club to a premiership in 1961 and three years earlier coached a Rutherglen-Corowa under-21 combined team which included household names including AFL Hall of Famer Hassa Mann, Brian “Wrecka” Leahy and Bill Gayfer.
His funeral will be held in Corowa on Monday at 2pm.
