While support for the facility appeared strong, only two expressions of interest were received, both from local agents.
“Ideally we’d like a couple of agents, a couple of producers, a transport operator and someone from the business community,” Towong mayor David Wortmann said.
“A committee of about eight would have been perfect but unfortunately it hasn’t panned out that way.”
The expression of interest process was extended through May and early June and closed on July 18 but the extension did not result in any additional applications being made.
“To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed because it’s a key piece of infrastructure in the Upper Murray,” Cr Wortmann said.
Cr Wortmann said council had not made a decision on the saleyards’ operation but it was likely to be discussed at council level in coming weeks.
It is not on the agenda for its next meeting, on August 2.
