Police confirm the two casualties of a head-on collision were men aged 42 and 43. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
EARLIER:
EMERGENCY services have flocked to Beechworth-Wodonga Road, Wooragee, where they are managing a serious two-car accident.
The collision, which occurred near Magpie Lane about 9.30am, has killed two people.
Road blocks have been implemented just outside of Beechworth and traffic, travelling both ways, is being diverted.
Detours are in place via Reids Way and Beechworth-Chiltern Road. People are being urged to allow extra time if travelling through the area.
The Border Mail reported last month the stretch of road had been identified as one of the 20 highest-risk roads in Victoria.
Traffic Accident Commission statistics showed 12 crashes in the area between June 2010 and June 2015 resulted in three fatalities, 14 serious injuries and eight other injuries.
More to come.
