Having been caddy to top mate Marcus Fraser at the Olympics he enjoyed a break like few others.
The Corowa-raised Wallis swapped his job at a Melbourne printing firm for the green and gold and his story of being a bagman for a childhood friend enthralled.
“That was a bit of a weird sort of feeling,” Wallis said of the attention.
“But it was a great experience and I enjoyed every moment of it, caddying for Marcus and playing in the final group for the last two days.
“It was really good, I loved it.”
Wallis compared the atmosphere to that of the US Open at which he caddied for Fraser during a year he spent on the bag before pursuing a career away from golf.
On Saturday, Wallis swung the clubs himself as he joined in a challenge with Fraser and other Corowa players against Canberra’s Gold Creek Country Club.
The visitors, who included professional Matt Millar, won the event.
