Ms Neville said she raised community concerns with Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton.
It comes after more than 40 King Valley residents expressed fears regarding hoon drivers and hunters at a public meeting in July.
The community also felt a police presence was necessary to assist emergency services during accidents and rescues.
Ms Neville said police from surrounding stations at Moyhu, Glenrowan and Wangaratta provided a response – all of which were 25 to 50 kilometres from the town.
“The Leading Senior Constable from Whitfield remains on leave,” she said.
“I hope the officer is able to return to duty soon.
“Local police are aware of the community’s concerns about staffing at Whitfield and will continue to work with residents to ensure they are able to respond to any issues.”
