A severe weather warning remains in place for parts of the region this morning for heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding.
Rainfall totals of 20 to 50mm have already been recorded over much of the north east forecast district, with some higher totals about the higher mountain ranges.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts the severe weather to ease by late morning but locations which may be affected include Wodonga, Corryong, Bright, Falls Creek and Mt Hotham.
Mount Buffalo had seen 79mm of rain to 3.30am this morning and Cheshunt 58mm.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- not walk, ride or drive through flood water;
- keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
- be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks; and
- be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
