Ridd, 23, is based in Cornwall and is set to fill the void left by young gun James Browning, who has left the club to pursue university studies.
Coach Dylan Weeding said Ridd would be a great fit for the Crows’ young and developing squad.
“As a younger player he'll fit right into the kind of culture we're building here,” he said.
“We were looking for a bowler after losing James Browning, and Alex should complement Cameron White really well.
“Getting a new voice in and around the club will be really important for us going forward.
“We've got a lot of blokes who are 18 or 19, sometimes you can get a bit sick of hearing the same things from the same blokes.
“The difference Alex will bring could be invaluable.”
Weeding will take over as coach from Andrew Wilkes.
The Crows crashed to an eighth-placed finish in the 2015/16 season, after claiming the minor premiership and making the grand final the season prior.
Getting young players to the club is the order of the day for Weeding.
Ash Hocking is likely to return to the Crows, but a question mark hangs over Nick Hanlon.
