A veteran of more than 270 senior Ovens and Murray matches, Kuschert, 32, charged past captain Hayden Filliponi and young gun Jay O’Donoghue in the second half of the season to win the award.
It was a memorable night for the Kuschert family, with the Roos defender and his father Trevor receiving life membership at the John Foord Oval. Trevor Kuschert won the Peter Bruhn Volunteer of the Year at the Morris Medal on Monday night.
Roos premiership players and former club captains Matt Witherden and Cade Mills, along with long-time volunteer Graham Barry, also received life membership.
“They’ve all been very loyal and terrific servants of the club,” Roos president Graham Hosier said.
“It’s great recognition for them.”
Steph Clancy edged out Sophie Hanrahan and Georgie Schultz to win the Roos’ A grade netball best and fairest.
