The pair moved from Alice Springs recently to take up residence in Tuggerah, NSW and have toured much of the east coast
The shaggy-haired duo are “like brothers”, but all pleasantries were put aside for yesterday’s under-16 final.
Winning was clearly the only objective as a hard fought and occasionally noisy affair ensued.
On this occasion it was Cox that prevailed in three sets 1-6 6-3 6-2.
“I started off a bit slow but then I fired myself up and got the last two sets,” Cox said.
“I was a bit tired, bit shaky, bit nervous but got over that eventually.”
Meanwhile, unseeded Sunbury starlet Kelsey Williams put a full stop on her giant-killing tournament with a 7-5 6-2 victory over Wagga eighth seed Brooke Brustolin to claim the under-16 girls title.
In under-14s, No.1 seed Mitchell Burman of Carisbrook defeated No.2 seed Jack Swindells and Danielle Wagland of Gordon beat Sonja Balic.
Temora’s Aaron Breust validated his No.1 seeding by defeating the diminutive Yani Patras to claim the under-12 boys championship while Tasmanian Brittney Macrostie beat Canberra’s Imogen Clews in the girls.
Many of the cup competitors will turn their attention to the Victorian Junior Grasscourt Championships, which starts at Wodonga Tennis Centre today with the teams event.
The singles championships will kick off tomorrow.
