Emergency services responded to the crash on the Olympic Highway about 12.40pm on Monday. 

The car driver, aged in his 50s, was crushed in the Ford stationwagon and died at the scene. 

The truck driver, 59, was rushed to Albury Hospital in a stable condition. 

It appeared one vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road but police are still trying to determine what occurred. 

Inspector Winston Woodward said the scene of the crash had been “chaotic”. 

“It’s a sad event,” he said. 

“We attend too many of these types of collisions.” 

The white Kenworth truck, which had been carrying gravel, tipped over but the dog trailer stayed upright. 

“It appears that one vehicle may have gone into the path of the other,” Inspector Woodward said. 

“But at this time it’s too early to tell which vehicle has actually crossed onto the incorrect side of the road.” 

Both vehicles were not carrying any passengers. 

Police, paramedics, firefighters and the SES attended and the highway was closed. 

Inspector Woodward said at least one person saw the crash. 

“There was a witness to the accident who has spoken to us and is assisting us in our enquiries,” he said. 

The car had been northbound and the truck travelling south.

The crash followed a similar incident at Killara on October 13.
