Things are shaping up hunky dory at the minute, with most areas looking just about perfect.
- Russell Mason
The weather’s looking excellent for the next couple of days, which should be fantastic for both fish and fishos.
Trout in the streams, cod, yellas and reddies should all benefit from a few days of warm weather and a couple of weeks without rain and a bit of warm sunshine would also be a big advantage … if we should be so lucky.
A lot of fishos’ main priority over the next week or two will be to get organised for cod opening, which of course commences on December 1 in both states.
Things are shaping up hunky dory at the minute, with most areas looking just about perfect, making it hard for those who trip about to different areas each opening to decide where to hit.
The way it’s looking it’ll be hard to make the wrong decision!
It’s then just a matter of sifting through all of your gear and making sure the rods and reels are still in good nick and checking your line out to make sure it’ll take the pressure of that ‘metery’ you’ve been dreaming about. Then going over all your lures and wondering if those split rings and trebles are still up to it or should I change a couple over to those big single lure hooks? Have I got enough surface lures? Should I grab a couple of those bigger lures I’ve been reading about?
Who was it again that said fishing was a form of stress relief?
At A Glance
Dartmouth: was great again last week. Plenty of fish around the 600 gram mark, with the odd one around the one kilogram.
Mixed reports on depth again but with this warm weather coming upon us it won’t be too long before you’ll have to resort to downrigger, paravanes, ect.
At the moment though, plenty are still being caught on top, with King Cobras, Tassies and crickhoppers being the best of the lures.
Streams: are continually improving in condition and fishing reports are reflecting that.
I’ve heard reports from just about everywhere in the north-east over the past week or two and I’m really happy to say the streams seem to be back.
I haven’t heard of any spectacular catches but all reports are of reasonable numbers of small fish, with the odd keeper, which is what you expect from most streams anyway.
Mulwala, Burrinjuck and Blowering: are all shaping up well for cod opening.
While Mulwala will still have a bit of colour in it, the other two should be really clear but I’m sure all will fish well.
The Bidgee: has cleared heaps and will be just about perfect by opening day, as will the Upper Murray.
Only eleven and a half sleeps to go! Roads and Maritime will hold an Old4New lifejacket check and swap at Corowa boat ramp, 2pm - 5pm Saturday.
