Shane van Gisbergen took out the overall driver championship after another successful performance at the Sydney 500 round on Saturday.
Van Gisbergen finished third in race 28 at Sydney Olympic Park Street Circuit, which was enough to help him secure the championship title.
The New Zealand competitor drives for the Red Bull Racing Australia Holden Commodore VF team.
According to Supercars.com, van Gisbergen is the youngest New Zealander since Jim Richards in 1991 to win the championship title.
Race 28 was won by Jamie Whincup, who drives a Red Bull Racing Australia Holden Commodore VF car.
Holden Racing Team Holden Commodore VF driver Garth Tander finished runner-up ahead of van Gisbergen.
The result means 27-year-old van Gisbergen holds an unassailable lead from Whincup in the drivers championship ahead of the final race today, December 4.
Qualifying for race 29 will take place from 11am today ahead of the top 10 shootout at 1.05pm.
Race 29 will take place from 3.40pm at Sydney Olympic Park Street Circuit.
