SUCCESS at Wodonga’s second day of selling was guaranteed as the buyers lined up for the Paull and Scollard, Rodwell’s, Schubert Boers, and BUR Livestock sale at Barnawartha on Friday.

All of the buyers returned for this sale, and with many needing cattle, and looking to fill trucks, competition was very strong.
All agents were very happy with the outcome, and some even suggested that the heifers sold may have been a little dearer than the previous day.
Yearling steers topped the sale at $1770, being for 10 Angus grown steers weighing 550 kilograms liveweight. Old Cobran Pastoral, Mullengandra, sold 87 yearling steers from $1390-$1680, selling to extra feedlot competition. Cumming and Dahlenburg, Barken, Jingellic, offered a large consignment of 138 yearling steers that weighed from 278-417kgs lwt. These sold from $1110-$1460.
The sale progressed onto the 2016, autumn drop steer calves with JJ and JA Paterson P/L, Tallangatta South, offering 109 EU accredited steers. Competition was very strong from northern and local buyers, and prices were from $1380-$1430. The later price was the top of the weaned steers.
Looking across the whole steer sale saw price trends exactly like the previous day. Competition for heavier weaners was less than the medium weights, and the light to very light steers sold to the strongest demand.
The yarding totalled 4551 head, and many of the steers sold from $1280-$1430. GI and D Webb, Tallangatta Valley, sold 84 steers from $1315-$1420, and The Cascade Past Co, Tallangatta, 36 EU accredited steers from $1300-$1400. Liveweight price ranges were from 378-444c/kg.
Widgiewa Station, Morundah, was the largest vendor selling 329 steers, all in a very tight weight range 338-390kgs. Selling to strong competition, one agent purchased the lot, paying from $1290-$1400.
It was fair to say that the smaller offering generally produced smaller pen lots, which in itself created more competition, as buyers looked to fill orders.
Lighter weighted steers generally sold from $1050-$1250. M&B and K&P McPherson, Whorouly, sold 152 steers from $1135-$1320. Very few pens of young calves made under $1000.
Very good quality was seen in the yearling heifers sold with R Horne, Wodonga, selling 18 heifers for $1560.
