The Pigeons were approached about the idea late last year, but have drummed up significant interest to be able to field a team in the AFL NEB competition.
“What we’re trying to do is create opportunities for girls within the community,” Mott said.
“It’s a community club. We’re not an Albury or Wodonga that has got four or five teams in the one town, we’re pulling football and netball players from half an hour away.
“It’s about providing an opportunity for those people within our extended community to play footy and offer something they may have had an interest in, but has probably been too difficult to achieve in the past.
“We’re really happy to promote it, really excited to offer it and it’s been something that seems to have been really well received by the community.”
