The white ants have made the area unsafe, shire general manager Rowan Perkins said.
“The termites have eaten the stud walls and there’s not much holding the roof up,” Mr Perkins said.
He said there was concern ceiling beams may fall if the walls continue to be weakened by the pests.
The shire will have an independent structural analysis of the building done with Mr Perkins expecting the assessor’s report may be presented as soon as the council’s meeting on April 19.
He said once the extent of the problem was set out, the council would decide how to tackle it.
Mr Perkins said water seeping under the building from gutters had encouraged the termites, which had been an ongoing problem in the annex which has been earmarked for demolition.
The redevelopment of the School of Arts building has been a contentious issue in Finley with the council having been criticised for an aborted plan to demolish the War Memorial Hall as part of an upgrade.
