Potter John Dermer will hold his 38th annual Easter exhibition at his studio gallery, Kirby’s Flat Pottery, from Saturday until Tuesday, 9am to 5.30pm.
The event will include new table and ovenware in porcelain as well as exhibition pieces in salt-glazed porcelain, a technique that remains his first love.
Having practised his craft for half a century, Dermer takes pride in his sturdy kitchen items.
His “party tricks” of standing on a dinner plate and hitting a piece with steel aim to prove their hardiness.
“If somebody’s going to buy a handmade pot, I want to make sure they get a lifetime out of it,” he said. “I won’t compromise.
“Can it go in the oven, come out on the table and not crack? Can it go in the dishwasher, can it go in the microwave? Without question those things, if it’s going to be made for cooking, are really important.”
