More than 1000 students were evacuated from Wangaratta West and Wodonga South primary schools, along with Lavington’s Murray High School and Sacred Heart Primary School in Yarrawonga.
Police conducted a sweep of the school grounds at the time and classed the incident as a hoax.
On Friday, a Victoria Police spokesman confirmed the hoax was the work of 18-year-old Michael Ron David Kadar, who lives in the Israeli city of Ashkelon, and has been charged by Israeli authorities with making 2000 automated bomb and shooting hoax calls to schools, airlines, hospitals and Jewish centres in the US, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Israel.
The North East hoax calls were among 591 made to Australian schools by the teenager from his his suburban bedroom for secret online bidders.
