Graeme David Oliver, 57, drove around to his former home on Clarke Street about 12.20am on February 28.
He had gone with two mates to take the former housemate down to an ATM to get his $180, but was greeted by another man.
The man told police Oliver had a machete in his hand, so he armed himself with a cricket bat and cracked him over the head multiple times, leaving bloodstains outside the home.
They struggled and the victim's right hand was cut and Oliver's friends fled.
The duelling pair were both taken to hospital and Oliver was arrested upon his release.
Oliver, who has priors for firearm offences and public knife possession, will return to Albury court on June 29.
